Editorial Reviews

An English/Spanish bilingual reference deftly organized by Valerie Laud and brightly illustrated Valentine Latushkin. Each word is used in a sentence (in both English and Spanish) and demonstrated with a simple, friendly color illustration. For example, the entry for hot/caliente reads "The pie is still very hot"/"El pastel todavia esta muy caliente" and has a picture of a hot pie held in a woman's oven mitts. Especially recommended for bilingual families, The Picture Book Dictionary offers an easy-to-use introduction and beginning self-start education for bright youngsters.

Thank you! This is really a great book for my 6 year-old (even though we don't speak Spanish). He is just starting to read and this simple and familiar text puts his fear of unknown away and I see his confidence in reading growing.
Rita Zeif, Summerville, SC

We love the layout and colorful pictures in the book. The illustrations really help the kids read the sentences. The pictures also help our girls to remember what the Spanish words are. The type font is very clear and easy to read. The only thing I would add to the book is the Spanish words on the animals, time, playground, vegetables, and shapes pages.
